Black Bass 101

Perhaps the most sought after freshwater sport fish in the Northeast is the black bass.  Better known as the largemouth or smallmouth bass, these fish are have turned “bass fishing” into a multi-billion dollar industry.  I mean, they even have a Pro Shop named after them. The professional bass tournaments have made stars out of many of these fisherman, and they are  selling everything from boats to bibs with their name and likeness on them.  But what is it about this fish that has attracted all of this attention? Fishing from a kayak is, in one word, freedom.  A well piloted kayak can be handled in whitewater and choppy coastal waters, and it’s compact enough to navigate waters where other boats can’t go.  With that flexibility and a knowledge of habitat and feeding patterns, a kayak fisherman can fish virtually anywhere, any time, and any way.  It’s also unbelievably fun, and can turn a bad day of fishing into a great day on the water kayak fishing.
